Dr. Michael K. Lam grew up in Sugar Land, Texas. After graduating from Clements High School, he attended college at the University of California at Berkeley. While at U.C. Berkeley, Dr. Lam earned the prestigious Regents’ scholarship and a degree in Biochemistry with the highest honors for academic achievement. He returned to Texas to attend medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern. After medical school, Dr. Lam completed his general ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago, where he was elected Chief Resident. He continued his training at the University of Texas and Parkland Hospital in Dallas by completing a fellowship in retinal diseases and vitreoretinal surgery. Dr. Lam also served as Assistant Clinical Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where he trained and mentored young retinal surgeons. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lam dedicates his time to providing care for the disadvantaged. He is a Global Impact Fellow for the non-profit organization, Unite for Sight, and has traveled to Ghana, West Africa to care for underserved patients and conduct clinical research to assess the risk of glaucoma in the country’s rural population.
